I had my first experience with the great american health system yesterday..
it all started because i went to the pharmacy for throat drops only to be advised that i have bad infection..coughing up lovely coloured stuff...so i should really go to the doctor.. at first i wasnt going to but then i lost my voice and got paranoid that i was really quite sick so i trotted along..it went something like this:
12.30 check in at ER, sit in waiting hall
1.30 moved into a bed!..with gown and everything! keep in mind that i only have the flu but i cant talk!
2.00 still waiting..by now i am assigning personalities to all the shoes i see milling around outside my curtain...everyone seems to be gossipping and not doing any work...
2.30 see doctor who kindly says that i have flu...*duh*..and that he doesnt want to do anything as it will just cost me money so discharges me with some medicine...however i dont know what exactly it is because i cant easily ask questions..
2.45 back at pharmacy am advised that script will take 2hrs!!! makes me appreciated the 5-15 minute wait back home...
turns out though that i am feeling much better and my voice is coming back some..
now i have the loverly insurance claim process to look forward to..
