'Toro nagashi' or floating lantern ceremony is held every year in the Peace Memorial Park to send off the spirits of those who died during the atomic bombing.
People write messages of hope and peace on the paper lanterns and float them down the river to the sea. We sent a blue one down.
Being Japanese of course the lanterns can't actually be left to float to the sea as this would be very untidy, so a few hours later an army of boats collect them all up. But its a nice idea anyway....
