beachhhhhhhhuh

I LOVE THE BEACH....hell yeas care feet on the hot sand and swimming!!!
we went down to this cute little cafe on the beach front called "Scotties" for breakfast, skating along the promenade and then jumped in the water.....so i have had my first *but hopefully not last* swim for the summer...i should try and get in more days at the beach given i will be land-locked in canada...but i am looking on this optimistically it will be like living in Taupo or something :)
The other night we visited a hookah bar...no not hooker....hookah is something you smoke....it was quite surreal sitting around in a bar and everyone has these bong-like things in the middle of their tables sitting there just smoking!!...it is a sweet smoke that gives you alittle bit of a buzz and its legal the weird world we live in...sort of reminded me of a nos bar in that surreal kind of way
I have decided that i may have come full circle-ish back to my more adventurous childhood days....i mean i went BIKE riding yesterday, i havent been on a bicycle since i was 11 or 12...it was a workout for sure...and im skateing again and have bruises and scratches on my legs and i just dont care...though sailee you will be proud because i own a number of pink t-shirts which i love AND i still haven't cut my hair....the intention is to look like a girl by the time i get back to nz...so fingers crossed i can hold out huh?

BASEBALL

this is me at a Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers game this afternoon at the famous Dodgers stadium...and yes it is like any other live sport match you go and sit in some semi-uncomfortable seats and pay rediculous prices for food and beer and generally make a fool outta yourself screaming and yelling with 48000 or so other people......ahh sports you just have to ask yourself why??

bye bye mammy

so thats it...four months in mammoth is all over...i spent the last four days getting in as much riding as possible...well actually trying not to kill myself on the mini-ski snowblades...*which i took down off the top!..screaming like a little girl most of the way;)*....i packed up all my stuff...which has managed to double since i have been here and therefore will need to be culled before moving on...
i am currently chilling it in LA with my roommate from mammy trying to transition to the non-snow environment...when i first saw grass i had to take moment to appreciate it!...i have also attended a varsity baseball game and am planning to go to a Dodgers game tomorrow...basically partaking in a bit of the "favourite american pastime"....the way i see it is it is kind of like cricket..nothing much happens for most of the game and then it gets quite exciting towards the end...and any live sport is helped along by a few cold beverages...

week and a bit of madness

whoa its bin a crazy week or so.....it started with 3 ski patrollers dying in a freak accident on the mountain...they were shifting a fence around a sulpher pond/vent when it gave way and they fell in....we arrived nearby soon after itt had happened...needless to day the whole community up here is pretty shocked by it..
we also broke last years record season with the most snow ever...50feet and counting...i mean it is spring well and truly (i have been riding in a t-shirt) but it is still storming...its freakin easter and its snowing! as a result the mountain has extended out the season till the 4th of july....
i have finished work...thank god...its spring break and has been pretty busy and what with every one leaving staff is stretched...i feel sorry for all the americans left with all work...
In honour of my last week/people leaving there were assorted parties and dinners: the-canyon-thank-you-party, the-rental-shop-thank-you-dinner, the-last-day-celebratory-party, the-foreigners-are-all-leaving-lets-get-drunk-on-last-time-party basically meaning that i spent a good 6 days hungover/drunk....
One of my room mates, amanda, was pretty sick for mos of last week and hen was admitted to hospital...her parents drove up to get her and for a while there i was set to leave mammoth in 12hrs time...but i didnt...so my plans for a road trip around california are on hold if not abandoned pending her health etc...
sunday was the last day of june mountains season...sad to see it close it is such an amazing place to ride....also the place i hit my first box and after two tries could slide it without eating shit....pretty exciting..
all this is topped off by an avalanche on the top of the mountain just behind the chair we were headed to and above where the earlier accident had occurred...it was a massive slide something like 700ft across which consequently meant the entire mountain was shut down for safety reasons as everyone was sent on rescue efforts...stranding us halfway across the mountian....
All this and im trying to get in as much time on the mountain as possible as i have only 3 days left in mammoth before heading down south to catch up with amanda...

Mammoth super-flu strain 62

yup i have been righteously sick with the super-evolved mammoth flu
it makes the rounds of all employees mingling with the gapper strains imported from down south and beyond to create the unstoppable mega-strength flu strain
this one was to rival the feelings of shiteyness of altitude-sick/jet-lag/early season flu strains encounter when i first arrived.....lets just say i slept for 3days and still felt like dying....good fun...and yes mum thats why i didnt ring
though on the recovery path now being sick in mammoth is not like sickness elsewhere...i think it is mostly the cold but re-exposure doesnt help either....
on the up side i have only 6 more working days till freedom....and it has been dumping snow the last 3 days solid...yesterday we broke last years all time record for the most snow in the season...last year it was 617inches....and its still snowing in freaking april!!...its crazy all the snow banks around town are between 8-14 ft high....so im going to make the most of the powder days and not bitch about the temperature coz ive only got a few weeks of this left....
ArgggHHHH its gone sooo fast!

DiZneylan

yup so i caved and went to the mother of all americanisms..disneyland
really it was just an excuse to get outta the freezing cold and wander around in jandals eating candyfloss and being a 2 year-old but whatever
it was one of those times that age just didnt matter...mental state was all the was important....we went on a monday but even so it was pretty busy...i would hate to think what it gets like on an actually 'busy' day....
i highlight was getting my photo with mickey mouse...we were just wandering around in toon town and went into one of the houses where wer eventually met mickey...we were in the room with all these 4 year olds and their parents but that didnt stop us rushing up a taking a million photos first before anyone else could...it was shameless :)...other photo opps included pooh, eeyore and tiger and a dancing buzz light-year....the camera wasnt mine so i havent viewed the pictures yet.....it was our chance to be the gappers for the day so went took photos af everything and tried to ask the most annoyiing questions we possibly could....though the staff weren't always biting i dont think we did that great a job :)
