HAPPY NEW YEAR!
hope all the southern hemisphere new year celebrations went well and all the northern hemisphere ones will be loads of fun.....
for me the holiday period is all but over.....a couple more days of mayhem and then *fingers-crossed* all the gappers will go home and never come back.....
life in mammoth trucks on as always consisting of a working too much, riding as much as possible, drinking more than i should, not eating and not getting anywhere near enough sleep!
BUT I LOVE IT!
i cant wait for january.....no people and a ton more snow (hopefully).....
i wish there was something more interesting to report but all i do here is work and ride...
maybe when i get some $$ together there will be time for travel....but right now i am content to just play in the snow....

just fricken dump already!
last week we had the first real storm...a whole 12 inches...woohooo....i know, pitiful but we take what we can get....
so in celebration we set up amanda and matts 8 foot long box in an abandoned parking lot in town after work and had a gib session...we called a few people and other people saw us from the road and came over to join in...it was a fun night with the stereos going and people just chilling out with us seeing what we were up to....
all i can say is that you have to make the fun where you can!

a year already..
its soon going to be 12 MONTHS away from home next week and people tell me its a really long time to be away from home...but it doesnt feel like a long time to me....i spose i have been kept so busy travelling and doing what i do that there isnt much time to dwell on what im missing back home...but thats not to say that i dont miss it, especially with all the foreigners rolling back into town...they sound soo funny to me!
i miss fish and chips, salt and vinegar, vegemite, vogels toast, cameo cremes and tim tams. I miss nz music, wellington night life and decent wine. I never thought id say it but i miss shortland street, mcleods daughters and all the other crappy australasian tv. I miss summer, the beach, hot sunshine and swimming in the sea. I miss winter when all you need is a sweater to go outside. I miss knowing where to go for the best this or the funkiest that, having a favourite place to eat where your known by the staff. I miss that thing that is hard to put your finger on but makes us kiwi. But most of all i miss every one of you.

I have got settled in to 167 Joaquin...an apartment complex set out just like Manzanita is....i live with 3 americans and 1 Irish girl and there is another kiwi on the way....so far we are all getting on really well and have been partying together and getting to know everyone else in town....
I started work last week and have got past the thanksgiving holiday "crazyness"..*because it wasnt*...no snow equals no guests...meaning my first American thanksgiving was quite low-key...consisting of a free mountain turkey dinner in my lunch break from work...however our little apartment complex (4 x 6 person apartments) had a communal dinner at night with turkey and potatoes and stuffing and pie etc...more a get to know everyone kind of thing....
Everyone here is pretty much just killing time, waiting and hopeing and praying that we get some big snow soon....there was a little storm last week but it was coupled with 100mph winds so not much stuck....but i must say the mountain has been working hard blowing snow, even during the day, to get as much open as they can....Main Lodge is still the only lodge operating at the moment meaning there are a lot of people in town without any hours yet, so im thankful for the few i am getting, the upside is that there is a lot of time to ride right now its only apity the snow isnt the best (after all i was sooo spoilt last season its hard to be happy with conditions right now).....the mountain is putting on free dinner every night until Canyon Lodge opens to try and support their employees...it feels a lot like being back at university waiting for 5pm to roll around so we can dash to the dinner hall and eat pretty crappy meals and socialize before going out for the night....in fact having no money rings true of being a poor student too...lets hope for snow soon!
